Touring With Pappy

Pappy came for a visit and we did everything there is to do in DC; all this in four days! It's taken me several days to recuperate, but now that I have, here are some pictures.

First we visited Mount Vernon, Former Home of George Washington:




Later that afternoon, we went to the Arlington National Cemetery. We saw the eternal fire at JFK's grave, RFK's grave, the Amphitheater and the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknowns:
From there we walked to the USMC War Memorial:

The next day we went to Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. (Yes, we took our protestant father to the most Catholic place in America.)

After Mass, we drove down to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. While the boys took these pictures:
The girls paddleboated in the tidal basin (Yes, that's the White House in the background and we are on the left):
From there we walked around a bit. We saw the White House, North and South Lawns (can you spot the sniper sitting on the roof in the first one?):


We also saw Alexander Hamilton in front of the Department of the Treasury:
The Next Day, we walked to the US Capitol, but didn't get a chance to tour it:
