Thanksgiving!!!
I am so excited about Thanksgiving this year. I am not really sure why as we will not have any family with us, not even our entire immediate family will be together. Nevertheless, the air is very crisp and mixed with the smell of woodsmoke from a fireplace. The trees are vibrant colors. It is autumn.
To prepare for Thanksgiving, we have made a Thank-turkey, read about Pilgrims, Indians, and the Mayflower, read Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving Proclamation, written in our journals about autumn and what we are thankful for, and, most importantly, planned our menu.
We will be having:
Appetizers:
-Relish Trays with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, ranch dip, pickles, black olives and green olives
-Deviled Eggs
Main Course:
-Roasted turkey
-Cornbread and bacon stuffing
-Gravy, with and without giblets
-Mashed potatoes
-Baked Sweet Potatoes, served with butter and brown sugar
-Corn on the Cob
-Cranberry sauce, from a can
-Potato Rolls, from Mom's recipe
Dessert:
-Pecan Pie
-Pumpkin Pie
-Apple Pie (I didn't know this was so easy to make!)
-Lemon Meringue
-Dirt Cake, from Wallace's recipe
-Cream Cheese Pie
-Chocolate Chess Pie
-Rice Krispie Treats, Thom's favorite
-Whipped Cream, a dessert in itself, but also for the tops of the above delicacies.

Thankfulness
Last year we made a Thankful Tree:

All Saints' Day!
Although we do not celebrate Halloween, we had a grand time at the All Saints' Day Party. We escorted Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha:
Kateri's father was a Mohawk Warrior. Her mother died when she was four. She converted to Christianity in her teens. Although she was persecuted by the other Indians, she remained strong in her faith. She moved to a Christian Indian colony in Canada until she died of poor health at the young age of twenty-four.
